HALT/HASS Tests


The HALT/HASS laboratory equipment enables performing the following tasks:
  • Highly Accelerated Life Tests (HALT)
  • Highly Accelerated Stress Screening (HASS)
  • Highly Accelerated Stress Audit (HASA)

These are accelerated test methods aimed at reaching a higher reliability of products.

The HALT test is an accelerated test method which enables to pinpoint design faults which would otherwise only be found during the device lifetime in real operation. By performing the HALT test the real operating and destruction limits can be determined. The HASS and HASA tests are used to pinpoint the manufacturing faults in products which cannot be tested in a standard way during production and which would only be found after the product has been in operation for some time. Each product (HASS) or selected samples of a given production batch (HASA) are subjected to an accelerated test which will show potential faults within the manufacturing process and only the faultless products will be released onto the market. As a consequence, the product is more reliable and the servicing and complaint management costs are reduced.

The HALT/HASS laboratory is equipped with a specialized chamber, which enables to stress the device under test with temperature changes in the range of -100°C to +200°C with a change rate of up to 100°C/min as well as vibrations generated in all three axes simultaneously.
